General description: The Aquatic Ecologist’s primary responsibility is to assist in processing samples for PhycoTech’s semi-automated algal identification services, including identifying algae from images, in addition to assisting the main laboratory. The person applying for this position must possess excellent computer and organizational skills and be a “team-player” able to troubleshoot issues and pay great attention to detail. Experience identifying algae is required. Programming/coding experience (Matlab, Python, or R) is preferred but not required. This position is 90% Laboratory and 10% field work. The person applying for this position must possess excellent organizational skills, be comprehensive, be self- sufficient, be able to pay great attention to detail, and be a "team player". The successful candidate must be able to complete projects by assisting project team and attending and participating in group and project meetings. They must also show a history of updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications; as well as enhancing laboratory and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
A bachelor's or master's degree, and prior work experience in biology or chemistry is preferred,
