  • One-year postdoc specializing in coral reef carbonate chemistry (see full details on OA Exchange) within the Acidification, Climate, and Coral Reef Ecosystems Team (ACCRETE), a subunit of the Coral Health and Monitoring Program, to work closely with scientists at Univ. Miami RSMAS and NOAA AMOL’s Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystem Division. The position does not require the applicant to relocate to Miami, duties can be fulfilled remotely 1) Focusing on synthesis and analysis of the NCRMP Ocean Acidification Enterprise datasets, i.e. baseline carbonate, diurnal suite, and census-based carbonate budgeting; 2) developing foundational models to link oceanic carbonate projection models with coastal biogeochemistry in focal island area within the NCRMP framework; and 3) Co-authors manuscripts describing the research for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and outreach materials for a general audience.

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate in numeric modeling of coastal systems to work with Dr. Y. Joseph Zhang at William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS).  The postdoc will join ongoing projects involving the development and application of numeric models to coastal hydrodynamics, geomorphological and ecological processes. Research activities will contribute to development and implementation of the next generation seamless ‘creek-to-ocean’ forecasts based on the SCHISM modeling system.

  • UW School of Oceanography seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with a team (Crusius, Murray, Bundy) focused on understanding the inputs of metals and/or metal isotopes to Gulf of Alaska surface waters. This position will contribute to a project that involves land-based sampling in remote Alaskan island and/or coastal locations, together with metal and isotopic analyses, aimed at assessing the dust flux to Gulf of Alaska surface waters and at distinguishing Alaskan dust, Asian dust, and fossil fuel-derived inputs. This position is full-time (100% FTE), 12-months/year, with an initial term appointment of one year (12 months), renewable for a second year, assuming satisfactory performance.   • POSTDOC POSITION in satellite algorithms in coastal environment at Old Dominion University with Dr. Richard Zimmerman and Dr. Victoria Hill. Applicant will work on a NASA-funded project to evaluate the use of high spatial resolution multispectral imagery for nearshore coastal environments including seagrass meadows and kelp forests, as well as marginal ice zones in the Arctic Ocean. Opportunity exists to participate in other projects involving carbon cycling in coastal environments, ecosystem modeling and ecological physiology of aquatic macrophytes, phytoplankton and ice algae.

  • 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at URI Graduate School of Oceanography to study microbially mediated biogeochemistry of C1 compounds in the Central Arctic during the MOSAiC Expedition. The successful candidate will participate in a portion of the year-long MOSAiC drift aboard the R/V Polarstern, beginning late 2019, as well as pre- and post-expedition activities. The position is based at URI/GSO with time spent at Scripps Inst. of Oceanography in San Diego, and at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven to train and interact with our collaborators.

    The fellowships are designed to help advance NASA’s climate modeling efforts by combining NASA observations with models and utilizing novel techniques in numerical analysis as well as data science. Successful candidates will be expected to work with the NASA-GISS climate model, NASA observations and in collaboration with scientists at NASA-GISS. Candidates’ background may be in Physical and/or Biogeochemical Oceanography, Earth Science, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science. NASA Postdoctoral Program application deadlines are March 1st, July 1st and November 1st each year. Eligible candidates within five years of receiving their PhD may apply as Postdoctoral Fellows and those with more than five years after their PhD may apply as a Senior Fellows.
