PhD project that will study the effects of macroalgae on the chemical and microbial mediation of coral recruitment

Cross posting from Coral-L

We are seeking applicants for a PhD project that will study the effects
of macroalgae on the chemical and microbial mediation of coral
recruitment. Our project aims to understand 1) how macroalgae modify the
microbial and chemical reefscapes, and 2) how these modifications affect
the coral microbiome and the early life stages of reef corals. The work
will be divided in three phases: 1) fieldwork in Moorea, French
Polynesia, under the auspices of the CRIOBE research station, 2)
microbial and chemical analyses at the CRIOBE in Perpignan, France and
at the Oceanographic Observatory in Banuyls, France, and 3) data
analyses and write-up of thesis at the CRIOBE in Perpignan, France.

Deadline for applications: 31st May 2019 in order to submit your
application to a funding source
Studentship funding: 1400 euros per month for 3 years
Start date: January 2020
Qualifications: To be eligible, the applicants should hold a Master
degree in Marine Biological Sciences or Chemical Ecology. Applicants
should be certified SCUBA divers (minimum qualification: CMAS*** or PADI
Rescue Diver). NB: The successful applicant will need to obtain a
scientific diver certification by the time his/her fieldwork in Moorea
starts in January 2020. Experience working on coral reefs is preferred.
Candidates should be physically fit, willing to work for long hours,
comfortable working in and on water, fluent in English or French, and
have good team and communication skills.

Interested candidates should send a motivation letter, CV, proofs of
Master degree and diving certifications to Maggy Nugues
(maggy.nugues@univ-perp.fr).
